Name: Larry & Janice Alster

Web Sites:  HoneyB     Whooosh

Tell us a little bit about yourself: Larry is a transplant from New Yawk City. Actually he is from the Queens and Long Island areas. He knew he belonged here rather than there because he liked grits and NASCAR from birth. So, in 1990 he came "home" to the Charleston area. Larry became a single man again after moving to Charleston. He has a daughter, Michelle, from his first marriage, who is now almost 15. Larry has continued in his career in Charleston with digital imaging technology, with his start in the mid 80's in New York.

Janice, a Kentucky native, moved to the South Carolina/Charleston area in 1997, after enjoying the arid cool ocean breezes, bug-free, but not smog-free southern California coastal area. What a shock! Before moving to South Carolina, Janice had posted erratically to the Miata.net list server. It was in response to one of the posts concerning brake rotor allowed widths that Janice met Larry.

Almost a year later in Columbia, Janice and Larry met each other in person, after having realized they knew each other from the 'net. They soon discovered they had a lot in common - Miatas, autocrossing Miatas, and racing Miatas.

A wedding soon followed in 1998. There is now a son, J.R., in the family. Although he has said "Mommy, your car is too loud," we are hoping he will come to his senses and realize he has the genetic markers for a fine motorhead.

Both Larry and Janice remain enthusiastic about being members in the LowCountry Miata Club. Larry served two terms as president, during 2001 and 2002. He now serves as an advisor on the officers committee. Janice has served both as newsletter editor for the club and webmaster. Someone else has embraced the newsletter editor position, so Janice now spends her time making the club web site spiffy.

Janice and Larry both have considerable computer skills and knowledge. Larry's specialties are: home networking, cable modem networking, wireless networking, PC hardware troubleshooting, PC upgrading to include memory or processor upgrades, peripheral specialties include: printers of all types, gaming devices, and scanners. He also is adept in digital camera technology.

Janice enjoys proficiency in the following software programming languages and applications: advanced HTML (all pages you are viewing are 100% handcoded), JavaScript, some dHTML, VB 6.0, introductory skills in ASP.NET, SQL, ACCESS, PHOTOSHOP, WORD and many other graphics and office applications.

Larry spends his non-miata time enjoying the company of other Duramax Diesel owners. Larry also particiaptes on the Miata Listserve and the Miata Power list.

Janices enjoys tole art and decorative painting on wood, paper, or other surfaces.
